Concept. By Friday evening of a week like this, most people have absorbed as much programmed content as they can usefully take in. What tends to be in short supply is unstructured time with the people they have been sitting next to.
The Cascais AI Afterwork is designed around that observation. There is no stage, no agenda and nobody presenting. It is drinks and conversation at sunset, on the coast, hosted by a community that has been meeting in Cascais twice a month since the Hub began.
Objectives. To give attendees of Lisbon AI Week a genuinely different way to close the week, and to connect the Cascais AI community with visitors who have come to Lisbon for it. In our experience running community gatherings, the conversations that lead to actual collaboration rarely happen in the session — they happen afterwards, and they happen better when nobody is trying to run anything.
Why Cascais, and why Friday. The setting is the point. Cascais is thirty minutes from Cais do Sodré, with trains every ten minutes running late into the evening, so it is fully accessible to anyone in the city. Placing it on Friday evening means it competes with nothing in the programme and functions as a natural closing point for the week — the trip out of the city becomes part of the experience rather than an obstacle.
It also brings visitors into contact with a local community they are unlikely to encounter otherwise: founders, engineers, freelancers and a substantial international population based in the Cascais area who do not routinely attend evening events in Lisbon.
Expected impact. Between 70 and 80 attendees, mixing our existing community with visitors from the week. We expect this to be the most accessible event in our cluster and the one that generates the most connections per hour. Venue on the waterfront, capacity managed through advance registration.
