Event details
Artificial intelligence is rapidly expanding what can be generated, predicted, analysed, automated and delegated.
Most conversations about AI understandably focus on what machines will soon be capable of doing.
HABITAR begins somewhere else. It asks what the emergence of increasingly capable artificial intelligence reveals about us.
When machines can write, compose, calculate, analyse, remember and create alongside us, many of the capacities we once considered unquestionably human can no longer be taken for granted.
And perhaps that gives us an unexpected opportunity: to look more carefully at the experience of being human itself.
HABITAR — What Artificial Intelligence Forces Us to Rediscover About Being Human is an intimate experiential workshop situated at the intersection of psychology, neuroscience, human experience and contemporary culture.
Rather than offering another prediction about the future of artificial intelligence, the session creates a space in which participants can explore what may become increasingly important precisely because so much else can be outsourced.
Attention. Embodiment. Memory. Relationship. Sensory experience. Creativity. Meaning. Presence.
The experience moves between conceptual exploration, conversation and hands-on analogue practices using simple materials such as paper, images, thread and collage.
Participants are invited not simply to think about humanity, but to experience these questions through their own hands, memories, perceptions and ways of making meaning.
Throughout the workshop, one question remains present:
What does it mean to inhabit a human life in an age of increasing artificial intelligence?
The session concludes with the creation of a small personal artefact and a collective piece bringing together traces, words, materials and reflections from the people in the room.
HABITAR proposes that one of the most important conversations about artificial intelligence may ultimately be a conversation about humanity.
About what we choose to pay attention to.
What we continue to make with our own hands.
What we remember.
How we relate to one another.
And, ultimately, how we choose to inhabit our lives.
